Oktoberfest 2016

I’ve been pondering whether I’d like to join Dyxum.com Oktoberfest this year. I’ve been focused on big changes in my own life. I developed a major project for Burning Man, devoted to the divine feminine. I work in steel and glass, and this project took my focus for the last 6 months. I’ve also been on a spiritual path about how to understand the development of our world. I thought, “I don’t have time for contests.”

Everything changes, and yet I simply want to see. I want to see everything around me.

For the challenge this year, I’ve chosen the camera Sony A99 with an STF 135mm lens. This is an amazing, but specialized, lens. I’ve really loved the Minolta macro lenses — the macro lenses seem all purpose, it seems like you can do anything. That’s what I used for Oktoberfest in 2011. The STF 135mm is different: it is manual focus and fixed aperture. The beauty, absolute beauty, of this lens is the “soft trans focus” (STF), meaning that the bokeh is truly awesome. I’ve loved this lens, but found it difficult to work with. Manual focus, seriously! Now, for an entire month, it is my time to find my relationship. I’ll need to fit myself into the picture.
